The Center of Our Life Together

It is the time we gather in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit to be in community together. We pray for one another, for the world around us and in praise and thanksgiving to God. It is a time for families to gather together hearing the living word of God. Together we are united in worship to grow in our faith, be grounded in our beliefs and share our gifts and blessings for the sake of the gospel in the world.

As Lutheran’s we believe in the presence of God through word and sacrament. We practice those each week in listening to faithful preaching and sharing bread and wine in the sacrament of Holy Communion where we receive the promise of forgiveness and eternal life. In Holy Baptism we are called to live a life of growth in the faith practices of discipleship.

Worship is central to our life together as we recognize where God is moving in our lives and our response to God’s action. It is an encounter with God who saves us through the life, death and resurrection of Jesus Christ. Through God’s word, water, bread and prayer we are nurtured in faith and sent out into the world.

Worship

Holy Communion is celebrated at each of our worship services. Gluten free wafers are easily available by request. Grape juice is offered along with wine. Being a congregation of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America, First Lutheran practices open communion, meaning all baptized believers are welcome to receive. Those not yet baptized are invited to the altar for a blessing by a pastor.

Baptisms are arranged by attending a baptism seminar offered the first Tuesday of each month.

Christmas Eve and Easter Sunday offer an expanded schedule of services that will be widely publicized. Thanksgiving Eve, Christmas Day, Ash Wednesday, Holy (Maundy) Thursday, and Good Friday will be observed in worship as well.

Come and join us in celebration! There is a place for you at First Lutheran.
