2023 Ministry Gatherings

Plan to attend one of four Ministry Gatherings. These congregational meetings are a precursor to the annual meeting held on the third Sunday of October per the church constitution. All members should attend one. In 2023 we will gather Sunday, October 8 at 9:30 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. and on Thursday, October 10 at 7:00 p.m. Meetings will be held in the Peel House and conversations around 2024 budget, council nominations, strategic plan and landscaping plan will take place.

2024 Budget Proposal

In October we hold three ministry gatherings for the congregation to hear about the proposed budget, the council nominations and the vision for the coming year’s ministry. This year these meetings will be held on Sunday, October 8 at 9:30 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. and Tuesday, October 10 at 7:00 p.m. Our hope is that one of these times works for most of the members of the congregation. We hold these gatherings so that all of the discussion can take place prior to the annual meeting.

Our constitution requires that the annual meeting take place at the end of each Sunday morning service on the third Sunday of October. There is wisdom to this in that getting a quorum is much easier than if we held a meeting at a separate time since our congregation is so large. There is also wisdom in that it makes our annual meetings very short since all of the work and discussion has been done by the council and at the ministry gatherings.

I write all of this to encourage you to be ready to read and understand the budget. Pray about the nominees for council and whom you will vote for. Plan to attend one of the ministry gatherings to get a full picture of where we are going in the year to come.

Yours in Christ,

Pastor Travis Norton

Landscaping Master Plan

In the winter of 2021 several large trees were blown down on the church campus, including the large Blue Spruce that had become a yearly Christmas tree for the neighborhood. Rather than simply replant the trees, the congregation engaged with NES to develop a master landscaping plan. This plan allows us to pursue goals to make the campus not only beautiful but also a ministry tool of welcome, prayer and youth engagement. Now we can replant in more thoughtful ways towards an overall vision. This is a plan that will likely take a decade to accomplish and comes with a price tag of over $750,000.

Our new strategic plan emphasizes building community among different age groups, honoring our elders, teaching our children and youth how to worship God and being more intentional about our relationships with ministry partners.
