Be the Heart Behind Sunday Worship at First Lutheran

Volunteering is at the heart of what makes First Lutheran Church a welcoming and vibrant community each Sunday. Every week, it takes a team of 63 dedicated volunteers to create meaningful worship experiences and ensure everything runs smoothly. Of those roles, 37 positions serve in the Sanctuary, supporting worship before and during services—whether greeting at the doors, assisting with communion, or helping guide the flow of worship. The remaining positions provide essential behind-the-scenes support, from preparation and logistics to hospitality and technical coordination.

One of the most beautiful aspects of being a volunteer at First Lutheran is that there is truly a place for everyone. Whether you feel called to visible, people-centered roles or prefer quieter, supportive tasks, your time and gifts can make a difference. Every act of service, big or small, contributes to a shared purpose of creating a welcoming, meaningful environment for all who attend.

Looking ahead to the third quarter of 2026 (July through September), there is a significant opportunity for our church community to come together in service. Over these three months, we have 819 volunteer positions to fill. While many faithful volunteers have already stepped forward, 456 of those positions are still open. With an average in-person Sunday attendance of 442 people, this is an achievable goal—but it requires participation from across our congregation.

That’s why we are launching a special Summer Challenge. If you have never chosen to volunteer at First Lutheran before, we invite you to sign up and “test-drive” serving in just one area. This simple step is a powerful way to discover new connections, explore your spiritual gifts, and deepen your involvement in the life of the church. Many of our regular volunteers began by trying just one role and found it to be a rewarding, meaningful experience.
