While we're away

From the pastor

We have made a new plan for the summer ministry at First Lutheran in response to the threat of the Corona Virus. You can see the full plan here.

  • Sunday services will remain exclusively online through August 31st.
  • Twice a month Wednesday communion services will be held outdoors. The next one is July 15th and 29th . Please let us know if you plan to attend by clicking here.
  • Small groups under 10 people will begin meeting in the church at their leaders discretion.
  • 12 step groups under 10 people can resume using the church building.
  • Children’s ministry for the summer will be online via zoom.
  • Youth Ministry will begin having some in person gatherings practicing social distancing.

We understand that we’re in the messy middle where people’s opinions begin diverging on what is the best path forward. Thank you for trusting your leadership and giving us the benefit of the doubt. All decisions are made with the well being of the congregation in mind following our Lord’s command that we should love one another.

online worship

Each week during this time of social distancing we will create a video worship experience. As the social distancing time goes on we will seek to get more involvement from you at home.

Set apart a time to view these videos below. Set aside an hour just as you would on a Sunday morning. Watch them with your household. Pray together. Talk about the sermon together. Let this be an intentional time of worship.

You can find online worship by clicking here.

Caring For Each Other

We will be taking some different approaches to pastoral care in the coming weeks. Pastors and caregivers will not be making hospital or care center visits to protect one another from the spread of viruses. We will be making phone calls, sending emails and writing notes checking in with the home bound and hospitalized. We ask that you reach out to us also, we are available to you in this time which can feel lonely, isolating and frightening.

This is also an opportunity for our congregation to connect and care for one another. Please reach out to those who you would sit by or visit with on a Sunday morning. Let's be church together in this time social distancing.

Faith formation

Sunday Adult Seminar -

July 12th to August 2nd - Online via Zoom Sundays at 10:30 am

You are encouraged to pick up a copy of Why Are All the Black Kids Sitting Together in the Cafeteria? And Other Conversations About Race by Beverly Daniel Tatum, but it is not required. It is a great introduction to this topic and is a well-balanced book based on research rather than opinion. Let's tackle this difficult topic together as people of faith and followers of Jesus.

July 12 - "How did we get here?" A look at current events, important terms, and the ELCA's "Freed in Christ, Race and Ethnicity" Social Statement. You can find the slides here.

July 19 - "Why Are All the Black Kids Sitting Together in the Cafeteria?" Understanding Identity Development in Kids, Teens, and Adults. You can find the slides here.

July 26 - "What about Latinx and Other People of Color?" A Discussion on Race Relations in General in America

August 2 - "How does one even become 'anti-racist'?" Signs of Hope and Steps to Move Forward
